The Artistry of Writing

Below are a collection of items, from planning through installation, from an exhibition at the Lilly Library I put on for my Manuscripts course (Fall 2011). The exhibition was entitled “The Artistry of Writing,” and I used a broad selection of Medieval and Renaissance manuscripts to illustrate this theme. This exhibition was mounted as a response to recent educational laws in my home state of Indiana, which states that schools are no longer required to teach cursive. The exhibition poses the open-ended question: are we losing something when children are no longer taught to read and write script?
